A Transition Back From Headless: Pair Eyewear

Pair Eyewear is a direct-to-consumer eyewear brand offering customizable prescription and nonprescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. Their core proposition is based on a modular system: customers select a “base frame” in one of several shapes and materials, and then choose from a wide selection of interchangeable “top frames” (including Sun Tops) that attach magnetically.
The Problem
The site was visually striking and delivered strong performance, but its technical complexity required a sizable team to maintain. While Shopify is known for its flexibility and intuitive content management, the headless architecture limited the ability to make quick and simple updates. Additionally, managing hosting and multiple third-party integrations made ongoing maintenance a significant operational challenge.
The Solution
The solution centered on rebuilding the site within a fully Shopify-native environment to simplify management while enhancing performance and scalability. Leveraging our proprietary Shopify framework, Spectacle, we recreated complex user flows to support custom eyewear configuration without sacrificing speed or design precision. This transition streamlined site operations, empowered the client’s team to manage content and integrations independently, and unlocked access to Shopify’s continuously expanding ecosystem of apps and features.
The Results
Less development costs, a more stable site infrastructure and better site load times.
